Doctor of the church, Therese de Jesus de Avila, Foundator of several convents of the Carmelites was also a mystic. In a night of rapture, she meets Christ, and in her imagination she enacts the Song of Songs, the heroine Sulamith waiting, longing, and searching for her lover.

MTG uses the eight Nayikas (eight different emotional situations and their expressions of the heroine waiting for Krsna, her lover, as traditionally shown in Indian dance as bharatanatyam and mohiniyattom) and adapts them to her own purpose.
